The Boswellia Genus: The Genius of Boswellia

The benefits of Frankincense are endless…

At Resin Essence we feel that the remarkable healing, rejuvenating and uplifting benefits of the Boswellia genus species (more commonly known as Frankincense) is an important addition to skin, health and wellbeing.

This is why we have spent considerable amount of time and testing to create our unique blend of a variety of resins from the Boswellia genus species.

Frankincense oil and the resin specifically has long been revered in the Middle East, Africa and India where it's been used in religious ceremonies as an anointing oil for thousands of years. It is also a popular ingredient in cosmetics and has been found in the remains of Anglo-Saxons and ancient Egyptians.

Throughout millennia it has been known that Boswellia / Frankincense was one of the standard gifts reserved for kings and deities. However, it can be questioned weather the use of Frankincense was for more than symbolic purposes. It has later been confirmed that this resin was cultivated, traded and greatly valued for its medicinal and even spiritual purposes.

Frankincense oil/ resin helps in healthy cell regeneration and keep existing cells and tissues healthy. It's useful for skin health, and can help treat dry skin, reverse and delay signs of aging and reduce the appearance of stretch marks and scars.

Therefore, we at Resin Essence have cultivated our own unique blend of whole resins, to not only ensure that there are optimum levels of BA in each of our blends, but also the therapeutic fragrances and properties can be obtained.

We always use the WHOLE resin when making our products!

Frankincense oil is considered a tonic, as it benefits all the systems operating in the body, including the digestive, respiratory, nervous and excretory systems. It also aids the absorption of nutrients and strengthens your immune system.

Resin Essence’s goal is to educate, promote, develop, elevate the benefits of Frankincense/ Boswellia genus and indeed how natural/ organic skincare ingredients are an important benefit to life health.

The science bit…

The health benefits of boswellia /frankincense resins and oils are mostly attributed to its anti-inflammatory, astringent, antiseptic, disinfectant, digestive, diuretic and expectorant properties. It also has cicatrisant, carminative, cytophylactic, emenagogue, uterine and vulnerary effects.

The main components of frankincense oil are ketonic alcohol (olibanol), resinous matters (between 30 to 60 percent) and terpenes such as a-and p-pinene, camphene, dipentene and phellandrene. It also contains bornyl acetate, linalool, actanol, alpha pinene, octyl acetate, incensole and incensyl acetate. Sesquiterpenes can go beyond the blood-brain barrier and help stimulate the limbic system of your brain, as well as your hypothalamus, and pineal and pituitary glands.

One of the therapeutic compounds which is only found in the resin is the boswellic acids (AKBA). Little to no boswellic acids are found in the essential oils. And only certain species of frankincense in the Boswellia species contain boswellic acids.

The Boswellia species that contain boswellic acids (AKBA) are currently known to be:

-
Boswellia Carterii
-
Boswellia Sacra
-
Boswellia Serrata
-
Boswellia Papyrifera
